Pamukkale, Turkey – 2025

March 2025

Pamukkale is famous for its stunning white travertine terraces formed by mineral-rich thermal waters. This natural wonder creates a surreal landscape of gleaming calcite pools. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Pamukkale offers breathtaking views and access to the ancient ruins of Hierapolis which was a Roman spa city founded in the 2nd century BCE. The pool with the fallen columns in it was a gift (before the collapse of the columns) from Marc Anthony to Cleopatra….

Yes, I copied and pasted that bit above from Sarah’s post…I’m taking a break from my journaling😜

We took a balloon ride over the city and the pools in the morning ….and then enjoyed the mineral pools that afternoon….seeing it from the air helped me visualize how the city was laid out. When we on the ground later at the ruins & actual pools….up close and personal…things were much more impressive. Of course, the bottles of wine we snuck in with us, helped make it a fun filled day for all! Laughter with friends is so healthy.

I believe traveling is the best classroom there is—no homework, no exams, just really good stories.
