Gocek ….located on the Mediterranean is famous for its natural beauty ….surrounded by 12 islands which create a natural harbor of almost round shape protecting it from the wind making it a “natural marina”. The small town of about 5,000 was perfect to explore venturing down one cobblestone alleys after another. Lots and lots of shopping. Great people watching just sitting in the outdoor restaurants along the waters edge. Saw a peaceful group (including children) walking thru the streets protesting against the Turkish president for arresting the Istanbul mayor who was set to run against him in the next election.
Allison & Rick had bought lots of jewelry at one of the shops on a previous trip, so we all found treasures at a very reasonable price. The rule of thumb in Turkey is offer about 1/2 the price they are asking…almost always you will be able to purchase your item(s) at your price…especially as you walk away. They might even follow you to your next stop and finally agree to your price.
There are hundreds if not thousands of orange and lemon trees here. Everywhere you look the fruit has fallen to the ground and the fragrance as you walked the streets was intoxicating. Every morning Allison would gather oranges and deliver fresh squeezed orange juice to both villas. DELICIOUS! We were also treated to a delicious Italian dinner one evening at our villa cooked to perfection by Melissa. Sarah had purchased an amazing chocolate dessert at the French Bistro in town to finish the meal. Of course, red wine was flowing!
Moving on to our villa “house swap” in Kalkan. Excited!
